A successful career may hide the darkest of stories. Lolo was able to achieve her current place of prominence after years of hard work and perseverance. Jones had a poor and difficult life as the child of an unwed mom who had five other children. She lived with her mom at a basement church and was always in motion. A life of constant movement forced Jones to attend a new school every year, until she began the high school. Jones, who was interested in the track events during her time at Theodore Roosevelt the high school was able to live in a different place from her mother so that she could pursue her interests. Jones was part of different families during high school to be able to concentrate on her academics. Jones won the Gatorade track and field Athlete-of-the year award at the high school level. as a cellist in the student section, Jones was also part of the school's orchestra.
